Sequel Systems Announces E-Prescribing for Controlled Substances

Sequel Systems earns electronic prescriptions for controlled substances (EPCS) certification, improving provider workflow and patient safety.

MELVILLE, NY - April 19, 2017 - Sequel Systems, Inc., a healthcare IT company, today announced their EPCS certification for their electronic health record (EHR), SequelMed®. The certification allows e-prescribing for Schedule II through V controlled substances from within SequelMed® EHR.

Sequel Systems completed the certification in compliance with the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA’s) Interim Final Rule (IFR) Title 21 CFR Part 1311, a regulation that permits e-prescribing for controlled substances and drives more efficient and secure processes.

All applications used for e-prescribing controlled substances must undergo testing and certification through a third-party auditor, required by the DEA. Sequel Systems’ testing and certification was completed by Drummond Group, one of the first DEA-approved certification organizations.

In compliance with DEA IFR Title 21 CFR Part 1311, all clinicians e-prescribing within SequelMed® EHR will be required to review Sequel Systems’ certification report and the DEA’s EPCS requirements.
